anxiety

I was a very socially awkward child and if there's something that makes you have, it's social anxiety has an adult. Not so much being anxious about social situations in general, but being anxious about people liking you. It makes you work probably harder than you should to make and maintain friendships and it makes you worry that people don't like you. It makes you lie awake in bed at night analyzing social situations from the day before and wondering if you did/said something wrong. I wonder if this ever goes away.

Actually, I think this means you will make a great doctor :) My girlfriend just started med school, and she's calling me every day like, "There's this girl, and I think we are going to be friends, but I'm not sure if she likes me. Do you think she likes me? Let's dissect every interaction I've ever had with her!" etc etc. It's pretty hilarious, I'm like "I'm sure she has a giant crush on you." You'll be fine - let it cards fall as they will, you will attract the kind of people to you that you want around you.

I am sure you are absolutely so positively wonderful to be around, and that you're much harsher on yourself in social situations than anyone else. Hope you can feel comfortable in your skin and calm those anxieties soon. Hugs!

Oh goodness, that's exactly how I feel all the time. Hugs. My first teacher actually told my parents that I had social skills, I just chose not to use them. That was totally wrong - I was petrified of not being liked. In med school I had one rotation where I was marked down for being a great student but not fitting in. Huge blow. Things are far, far better nowdays but you are definitely not the only one worrying what people think of you.

Also, in all that I know of you, I wouldn't ever have picked you for socially awkward! Just so you know :)
