Nobody Wants Me
I really want to do something clinical this summer in family medicine. It's turning out to be harder than expected. Nobody wants a second year med student and it's becoming VERY disheartening. I don't have the connections or my connections just aren't working out and I've come to so many dead ends now it feels like I'm banging my head against a wall. I can't sell myself any harder. I just want to practice practicing. I just want to get out there and experience what it's like to be a dctor in a small southern ontario community. I just want to figure out if this is what I want to do with my life. Is that too much to ask? Apparently so.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but have you tried contacts through your medical school's Student Affairs office? I'd be really surprised (based on my experience) if they don't have a list of rural physician placements.
Where are you looking to go? I have plenty of contacts in rural southern Ontario that routinely take medical students and residents for 1-2 month rotations.
Couz,
I'm looking to go anywhere around the Hamilton area...
Don't ever give up, the place is out there for you. It'll find you sooner than you know.
Best of luck!
I have contacts in Brantford. I can ask if they take med students. Is that too far from Hamilton?
Grr, that's so annoying. Have you tried asking your medical school union for suggestions? They might be able to help.
It's really great that you want more experience during your holidays - it's so good that you're so enthusiastic!
The best of luck with finding a placement... let us know how it goes!
I'll e-mail him tomorrow and let you know.
Xavier
